UK venues and events will need to be better prepared and have plans in place to respond to terrorism attacks after Martyn’s Law received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025, officially bringing the law into force.
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 requires public premises where 200 or more people are gathered to have a plan in place to protect them if there was an attack.
For venues with a capacity of more than 800 people, the onus will be on them taking steps to protect against the threat of terrorism, such as having bag searching policies and CCTV.
The introduction of the legislation comes following a six-year campaign by Figen Murray, the mother of Martyn Hett, who was killed in the Manchester Arena terror attack in 2017.
