Macauley Hicks-Williams, event project manager, has built a career defined by adaptability, creativity, and a passion for delivering seamless live experiences. From starting in the industry to now managing large-scale productions with hundreds of people on-site, he thrives in fast-paced environments where no two days are the same. Here, he shares the defining moments of his career so far, the lessons that have shaped his approach, and what he’d love to work on next.

What has been a defining moment in your career to date?

One standout moment was working on a large-scale live event where we transformed the iconic Big Breakfast house into a fully branded ‘house’ for our telecoms client. At one point, we had over 250 people on-site—it was a huge logistical challenge, and I thrived in the fast-paced environment.

What do you love the most about working in events?

The opportunity to travel, meet incredible people from different industries, and see a project come to life from concept to completion. No two days are ever the same!

What has been the most valuable piece of advice you've received in your career, and how has it shaped your approach to your work?

“Stay calm and think of an alternative solution—there’s no benefit in panicking or getting frustrated.” That mindset has helped me handle high-pressure situations with a clear, solution-focused approach.

What would be your dream event to work on?

A multi-day conference overseas, somewhere like Japan combined with an incentive experience that showcases everything the country has to offer.

If you could instantly master any skill to make your events even better, what would it be?

Speed-organising and stuffing name badges in A-Z order like a machine.

If you could have any superpower to help with event planning, what would it be?

Freezing time so I could get more done (and maybe grab a tea in peace!)
