Tomorrow’s Talent 2024: Ellie Armitt

Tomorrow’s Talent 2024: Ellie Armitt

Ellie Armitt, who is event manager at Bray Leino Events, discovered her passion for event organisation and planning when she was an apprentice at ABB. There, she moved to the events management team to fulfil her dream working in the events sector. Pre-pandemic, Ellie completed a digital marketing apprenticeship at AVON, where she gained invaluable insights into marketing and social media.

What does and what will being a Tomorrow’s Talent winner mean to you?

I am honoured to have been selected by the judges, considering the remarkable work being done across the industry. I feel incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity to network with fellow winners and meet other attendees at The Meeting Show. I am confident that it will facilitate valuable connections and insights, which will greatly benefit my future endeavours in events and beyond.

Who or what in the meetings industry inspires you?

What truly inspires me about the events industry is its ability, to transform a space and create an unforgettable experience. There are countless details, many of which go unnoticed by the average attendee, but they contribute to create a certain ambiance and feeling. It's all the meticulous effort of the event team that make the attendee's experience truly memorable.

Tell us about your proudest career moment so far and why?

I recently worked on the Outreach Programme at the UK Space Conference 2023 in Northern Ireland, organising a free, interactive program for 150 children over three days. The attendees learned about space and future careers as engineers, lawyers, mathematicians, and astronauts.

During a Q&A session, a student asked the first disabled trainee astronaut John McFall if she could be an astronaut despite losing part of her leg due to surgery. McFall left the stage, sat beside her, and encouraged her to follow her dreams. It was an emotional and special moment. Seeing the children's enthusiasm and hearing from their teachers about the program's impact, was a proud moment for me.

What do you most love about working in events?

I love facing challenges and thinking differently, how can we add value, how can we change this up. No two days are the same, it’s a fast-paced environment but that’s one of the best bits. I love the teamwork and seeing everything come together on the day.

What would be your dream event to work on?

I would love to work on the MET Gala, perhaps something in fashion. I really enjoy working on largescale events, including conferences so with the experience I have learned, I feel I can.
