Why Nurturing Emerging Talent is the Key to a Thriving Events Industry

As Tomorrow’s Talent 2025 opens for entries, judge Priya Narain, purpose and culture manager at KERB and co-founder of Event First Steps, joins us as guest editor. In her column, she discusses the benefits of celebrating emerging talent, not just for the individuals who win, but for the events industry as a whole.

The events industry is defined by its people—creative thinkers, meticulous planners, and tireless problem-solvers. But as our sector continues to evolve, one thing is clear: the future of events depends on how we support, guide, and celebrate emerging talent today.

Tomorrow’s Talent 2025 is a call to action, shining a spotlight on the rising stars who are driving innovation and bringing fresh perspectives to the table. As a judge, I’ve had the privilege of seeing firsthand how transformative recognition can be for individuals early in their careers. These accolades don’t just validate hard work; they serve as a springboard for growth, confidence, and new opportunities.

At KERB, we understand the power of mentorship and support in helping people get ahead. Through our social enterprise, KERB+, we’ve created dedicated programmes that coach aspiring entrepreneurs to either start their own street food businesses or provide pathways to employment within hospitality. By equipping individuals with practical skills and tailored mentorship, we’re investing in the future of our industry and empowering people to thrive.

Through my work with Event First Steps, I’ve seen the impact of guidance on those navigating their first steps in our industry. It’s not just about opening doors—it’s about equipping people with the tools to walk through them. Similarly, at KERB, our inclusive initiatives have demonstrated how intentional support can empower individuals and create ripple effects that benefit entire teams. This is evident by our win at the recent M&IT Awards for Best DEI Initiative for our female inKERBator Programme.

This is why I urge managers to pause and reflect on their teams. Who has gone above and beyond? Who consistently brings a fresh approach or energy to their work? Nominating them for Tomorrow’s Talent isn’t just an investment in their future—it’s an investment in the future of our industry.

Let’s collectively ensure that emerging talent isn’t just encouraged but championed. By doing so, we build a stronger, more innovative, and inclusive industry for generations to come.
